DANISH LONG BALL (YOUTH ALPHA GAMES)

danish long ball, youth games, tennis ball
LOUISA JACOB 07Oct2011

Anyone know why it's Danish....?

You will need

A big space
Soft balls
A cricket bat
A group of people who want to run around!

How it works

Mark out an area – a long rectangle – with some cones. Make sure that the boundaries of the area are clear and that you also mark a mid point on one short side for the batsman.

From this point also mark a point halfway along the middle of the rectangle (point 1) and a point right at the end of the rectangle (point 2). These are the points that the batsman must run to.

The batting field has two parts: inside and outside the rectangle. Fielders can position themselves inside or outside of it. The fielder who fields the ball cannot move with but instead they must pass it to another fielder in a better position to hit the runner.

The bowler pitches the ball to the batter. The batter must hit the ball within the rectangle (but can bounce or roll out.

The batter must then run to either point 1 (for 1 point) or point 2 (for 2 points). At those points the batter is safe, anywhere in between those points they are not safe and can be got out by the fielders throwing the ball at their body (below the head). The runner may rest in safety at the points, but to earn a the 1 point or 2 points he must make it safely back to the original side of the square without getting out.

Remember the fielder who fields the ball cannot move with but instead they must pass it to another fielder in a better position to hit the runner.

Each side bats its entire line up – you may want to swap in a few times, you may want to put a time limit on it.
