January's Adviser of the Month
Milking a cow and the sad tale of AWOL Robinson...
We’ve been away for Christmas and this January, WE’RE BACK with the all sparkling, all shining Adviser of the Month.
Naomi is a real legend. We met her last year at the Youth for Christ conference (in a castle, in Wales!). Naomi loves people, she loves talking and she loves Jesus... And with a real heart for Youth Alpha, we couldn’t resist inviting her to become a Youth Alpha Adviser. To our joy – she said yes!
So enjoy getting to know the lovely Naomi...
What would we catch you doing on a Saturday afternoon?
Watching Soccer Saturday or up at White Hart Lane for a match - that’s quite sad really, isn’t it?! Youth Alpha would never comment on such a question...
This is explained by...
Do you like watching sport?
I do... I am a very avid Tottenham Hotspurs fan, so I like watching them play!
What do you do?
I’m the Senior Youth Worker and Acting Centre Director for Croydon Youth for Christ... which pretty much means I do everything to keep the local YFC centre running; from running groups, meeting with youth-workers and ministers, organising events, making the coffee and putting up the Christmas tree!
If you could wake up and have the ability to do one skill tomorrow, what would it be?
Drive... if the same person who gives me this power could also get me a car that would be excellent. We’d all like a free car – especially if it’s a VW camper van!
Have you always been a Christian?
Nope... I have always been to church (coz my mum & dad took me) but I became a Christian when I was 6 on a Covenanter (they don’t exist anymore) Holiday!
What’s your favourite hot drink?
Cafe latte’s from Costa Coffee or a nice cold can of Diet Coke.
What was the last film that you saw?
Ummm.... The last film I saw at the cinema was ‘In Time’ (which is good, you should go see it, or get it out on DVD its cheaper)... On that note, Tesco sent me 5 vouchers for free 2 months to Love Film! Though I saw the first ‘Twilight’ film for the first time the other day when it was on TV too, which was also good!
Do you have any pets?
No, sadly not, I had a guinea pig when I was younger called Robinson, but he went AWOL one night and hasn’t been seen since!
Have you ever met a famous person?
Anthony Costa from Blue was sat behind me at the Carling Cup Final in 2008... does that count? Yes, that counts!
If you knew could you try anything and not fail, what dream would you attempt?
Walk across the USA.
If you could make any inanimate object alive, what would it be?
I would love to see what my iPhone would do if it had a mind of its own!
Have you ever milked a cow or goat?
Yes... a cow, I was about 6! It was a very odd experience!
What’s the best thing about running Youth Alpha for you?
Hearing some of the amazing questions young people come out with... and watching some of the leaders look really baffled about how to answer them!
What’s your highlight when it comes to being a Youth Alpha Adviser?
Getting to drink coffee while talking about changing the lives of young people!
What have you done as a Youth Alpha Adviser?
I am sad to say, not a lot yet... come on South London... ask me some questions!!!
