The Road to Nowhere? Yes, we went there....

Malcolm Smith 18Oct2011

The long M180 connects South Yorkshire with the South bank of the Humber, an area that often feels cut off from the rest of the country...

HOWEVER... Nowhere is cut off from Youth Alpha!

North East Lincolnshire made up of the towns, Immingham, Grimsby and Cleethorpes has seen many Alpha courses of the grown up variety but few using the Youth Alpha material...

That is until recently!

Many of the churches in the past year have begun meeting and looking at possibilities for bringing young people together from across the denominations in order to learn, share and serve and Youth Alpha has been one of the areas of development.

With 5 courses planned in the coming year it was only natural for local Youth Alpha Advisers to spot an opportunity for running a training day as part of the 2011 YA Tour.

Six delegates representing four of the planned Youth Alpha courses came together for fun, games, worship, prayer and training on how to deliver the Youth Alpha material to their groups.

Even more excitingly the group spent time exploring ways in which they could pool resources in the future to run joint weekends away and launch nights as well as train young people from their churches to run future Youth Alpha courses.

This was a small group which meant we could keep things fun and informal, but great things come from small beginnings!

This little story was brought to you by Malcolm Smith, one of our legendary Youth Alpha Advisers in, you guessed it... Grimsby! Find out who your nearest Adviser is here and maybe they’ll help you out with some training for your Youth Alpha course. Or if you’re on the M180 and want to get involved in one of the Youth Alpha courses that’s going to be happening, then drop us a line at youth@alpha.org.
