PAUL, WORTHING 19Sep2011

“I had heard people mention Youth Alpha before .... but it didn’t come across my mind that I could actually lead one at my age!”

So says 6th former Paul, following Saturday’s Youth Alpha Tour stop in Worthing.

Paul continues.

“I found this out after seeing the Youth Alpha stand at Soul Survivor and learning more about the course on the Youth Alpha website. I came to their training day because I wanted to know more about Youth Alpha and I wanted to make a change in the secondary school that my Sixth form is joined with, by showing them the love I have for Jesus.

The day in Worthing that the Youth Alpha team ran can be described in so many words, but I’ll describe it in one word: AMAZING!

We learnt so many things on the day such as the ‘Recipe for Youth Alpha’, ‘What is Youth Alpha?’, how to lead a small group and many others. We also had a choice of workshops to go to in the ‘Learning Lab’ sessions; I went to the ‘How to do a great live talk and use TalkBuilder’ and ‘What if I want to run Youth Alpha in school?’

It is difficult to be specific on what was helpful because it was all incredibly helpful.

I was new to the idea of running a Youth Alpha course and the day allowed me to learn a lot, including the preparation and fun you can have in the groups, shown by games such as battle of the sexes (which I still say the girls did a bit of cheating in, but as they said, ‘girls are the best!’).

I feel that I have also learnt what we should show to those who come as guests on a Youth Alpha course; out of all the things to show them, you want to show them the love of Jesus. Not to tell them what is right and what is wrong, but to show how Jesus is a role model and He loves every single one of us. Learning that is what got me closer to God more today.

Am I happy that I came? Of course I am!

It has been one of my most amazing highlights of the year just to learn about a massive opportunity that can be made to interest youth and open themselves up to such big questions which could possibly allow them to consider giving their lives to Jesus.

If you haven’t gone to one of these spectacular days then here’s my advice: Go to one! Simple as that! It is a day you don’t want to miss if you want to learn more on how to run a Youth Alpha group!”

We loved meeting Paul and many other young people, as well as youth leaders and church leaders on the Worthing Youth Alpha Tour stop. We’re off to Cardiff this Saturday and lots of other locations across the UK... It would be a treat to see you there, book now.
