Youth Alpha At Home!

Why not run Youth Alpha in your home?! Just like Nina did...

Nina is mum to three and recently hosted a small Youth Alpha course in the comfort of her own lounge, with young people coming to faith. She tells us all about it....

Our Church has been running a youth club in our village for over seven years and during that time we have built up a genuine relationship with the young people in our parish.

We have a heart’s desire to share the truth, love, freedom and good news of Jesus with the young people in our community.

For the past five years or so the youth club volunteers from our church have talked and prayed about running a Youth Alpha as we have a heart’s desire to share the truth, love, freedom and good news of Jesus with the young people in our community.

Last autumn we decided to go ahead and run a Youth Alpha and we had 10 young people attend our Youth Alpha course.

My husband, Darren, and I “hosted” the course and our wonderful church family contributed towards the costs of the meals and provided delicious puddings each week! I delivered the “talks” (with the aid of PowerPoint!) – the Youth Alpha guide was excellent in explaining and laying out the structure of each weekly talk.

It was wonderful to know that young people were talking about God and praying together.

My twin sons, Adam and Nathan, along with their friend Hannah (all of them age 17) were the young leaders and they led the discussion groups and they were the ones who prayed for the young people on the course. It was wonderful to know that young people were talking about God and praying together.

The highlight of the course for me was the Weekend Away. We stayed at a wonderful venue and the surroundings, facilities and weather all added to this very special occasion. The presence of God was so evident – everyone relaxed, happy and united. The evening session on “How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit” ended with all the young people receiving prayer!

Our Youth Alpha course has ended with a group of young people wanting to continue their new journey of the Christian faith and we currently have a group of eleven young people meeting every other Tuesday evening in our home. We are following the ‘Freedom in Christ’ for young people course which builds on the teaching, discussions and prayers of the Youth Alpha course.

It’s simple – why not give it a go yourself?! What a great idea to get your church family to help support through food and getting young people to lead the small groups. Send us an email if you decide to do the same, youth@alpha.org.
